On
wearing copper…
People
ask
about the health benefits of wearing copper:
Copper is recognized as an
essential
element for the functioning of
healthy cells, cardiovascular system, nervous system and antioxidant
among other benefits. In few cases copper is not recommended and can be
toxic if it is not metabolized and eliminated properly and is allowed
to accumulate to toxic levels. Consult a physician if you have any
concerns.
…about the
stains on skin:
Copper particularly
tarnishes in the
summer as the heat, humidity and
pollution increases. A greenish color may appear on your skin while
wearing copper jewellery. The green color is copper being slowly
dissolved from copper jewellery and can be easily washed off. For those
individuals wearing copper for arthritis this is exactly what they want
to see.
…about the
stains on fabrics:
White and light colour
fabrics might
pick up the green from the copper,
but using bleach according to the washing instructions will remove it.
…about
cleaning copper:
Put a couple of
tablespoons of lemon or
lime juice in a small container
and add a teaspoon of regular table salt to the juice. Now
drop
in your item and swirl it around. The tarnish is gone
instantly
and your jewellery is bright and shinny. Be sure to rinse the
jewelry well or clean off the salt with some gentle cleanser and then
rinse it. Your jewelry will sparkle
Since
1998 I
was
working with Marie Van Schie perparing and forming the
materials from salvaged materials to be used for her designs. The
pieces were sold at the Royal Ontario Museum and the Art Gallery of
Ontario gift shops. Several of the designs were for the most part mine
with some suggestions from Marie. I have included some pages,
"Collaborations", of her designs which are still available for sale.
