Review - "Be Wearing Wolf"

Suitcase in Point Theatre Company

You have more than fulfilled your vision. If anyone needs help in understanding Marshall McLuhan your play and performance of “Be Wearing Wolf” should be required viewing.

Congratulations and sincere thanks to you all for the experience of seeing your work yesterday, Sun. Mar 22! I came away from the play euphoric as Alex and Natasha could witness and to whom I am most appreciative of our ‘collision’ at the St. Lawrence Market last week. I walked in awe, despite the bitterness of distorted nature, along the wind tunnel of Queen’s Quay and in analysis of this experience, oblivious of the rising costs of public transportation and life in general. Finally sleeping on it and deciding to just slide back into the experience of it again when I woke this morning.

You have succeeded in weaving all the elements of art, storytelling, entertainment and politics to subvert the ego and deliver your message to the intended recipient. Special congratulations to Deanna and Erin for their amazing roles of Joyce and Simone, their friends, family and ‘institutionals’ which took a great deal of courage to explore the boundaries of neuroses and psychoses, to express them so convincingly and to juxtapose them with the gentleness and strength of the human spirit.

If someone was to give me the choice:  seats and merchandise to “Mel's Passion” or seats to “Be Wearing Wolf”, I would find redemption howling wolf!

Rockmdead!

John

From their website

Suitcase In Point is a little group of kittens who enjoy snuggling together ... no really ... they are a theatre group. They write and perform plays. One of the things they have become famous for is their cabarets. 3 have been written and performed so far: the "Wape and Grine" cabaret (a tribute to the annual Grape and Wine festival), the "Alienation F/X" Sci-Fi cabaret, and the "Cowgirl/Cowboy Cowbaret".

They are also famous for their Grand Guignol adaptations, performed every Halloween (except last, ... let's not talk about that, ok?). Grand Guignols are french short plays, which consist of a whole lotta blood and gore and scary things like that.

The folks in S.I.P. have worked in conjunction with locals Theatre Arts Niagara in producing quite a few successful runnings. One is that of "Be Wearing Wolf". Written by Deanna Lynn Jones and Erin Shields, its a cutting dark comedy about a couple girls dealing with their wolf-like instincts. One girl was raised by wolves, and the other was shaping into a wolf. They did a 2 week run in the fall of 2002, and sold out 3 of the 4 shows. Quite a success. It starred Deanna and Erin, and had live musicians Joe Lapinski and Edwin Conroy, who both wrote the original music for it. "Be Wearing Wolf" is going to be performed once again for the Hamilton Fringe Festival in June (2003). Keep your eyes peeled.
