Using the recycled materials, I became a self-taught
metal
artist and began working on sculptures with materials from building
sites and old appliances

First Unitarian Church in Forest Hill.
1998
Marie began to design jewellery from recycled and found
materials, I assisted in preparing materials and forming the
structures. We sold to the ROM
Shop
(Royal Ontario Museum), AGO
Shop
(Art Gallery of Ontario), and
private commissions.
1981
- worked with Toan
Klein
at
Gato Glass
for 6 months then
went Coda Crystal
for 6 months
1981 - 1992
- Sold art and art books as a full-time business and
specialized in tribal art.
- Employed in the Housing Industry for 6 years and
continued
to buy and sell art.
- Marketed stained glass through custom kitchen
designers,
private commissions, several stores at and Queen’s
QuayVillage By the
Grange Craft Market.
- supplemented self employment with selling collectibles
and
art at Habourfront Antique Market
Art Background:
My
life-long and unpracticed aptitude for
art led me to a Stained Glass class at
Paul
Winter Art Glass
in
Edmonton, Alta, 1977. With Marie Van
Schie, we
began to design
original
works that were sold to several craft and home furnishing stores and
one showing at the University of
Alberta Art Gallery.
In 1981,
moved to
Toronto and continued with glass.
General Background
1967 –
1969:
Graduated
high school, entered business at Ryerson
University but joined the Hospitality
Industry after two semesters.
1969 – 71:
Traveled
and
worked in Europe
1972 – 74:

Western Canada for two
years.
1974 – 75:
Graduated
with
first class honours from diploma program in the Restaurant &
Hospitality Management at LaSalle
College in Montreal. Completed summer
program at Cornell University
with certificate in H & R with first
class honours and elected class president.
1976 - 1980:
Continued
career in Hotels in Edmonton, Alberta in various middle-management
positions.
